Walton Health Golf Club
Hosting the Sky Sports British Masters requires that the highest standards must be maintained
Executive Summary
Walton Heath is one of the world’s most highly regarded golf clubs, famous for its rich golfing and the quality of its two exceptionally challenging heathland layouts, described by Jack Nicklaus as “wonderfully pure.” Both courses feature in the UK and Ireland’s Top 50 rankings. The Old has earned its place in the World’s Top 100 every year since their inception in 1938. The Club is hosting the 2018 Sky Sports British Masters.
The Challenge
Like most organisations in 2018, Walton Heath Golf Club were mindful that they should be compliant with the new GDPR regulations.
Whilst due diligence had taken place and they were registered online with the ICO (GOV.UK -Information Commissioners Office), Stuart Christie, Walton Heath’s Secretary, sought further advice from Jelf Insurance Brokers and was referred to Eddie Finch of Chapter Three Consulting (C3C), specialists in business, club, entertainment and leisure regulatory and legislative compliance.
The Solution
Eddie Finch proposed a full Compliance Audit. This comprehensive risk assessment addressed the GDPR requirements, but also, due to its thoroughness, identified other mandatory obligations which needed to be updated, such as the Walton Heath’s Club Premises Certificate. (A CPC provides authorisation to use club premises for relevant activities, including the supply/sale of alcohol, signage and regulated entertainment for members and guests.)
The Results
Eddie managed the whole process to make sure all actions were proportionate to Walton Heath’s needs. The GDPR review (e.g. compliant privacy policy, data protection impact assessments - DPIA, data protection policies and procedures) was supported through GDPR staff awareness training and an updated handbook and Eddie further recommended a specialist solicitor to validate the CPC review. Given that the Club is hosting the 2018 Sky Sports British Masters in October, ensuring full compliance with obligatory legislation and regulations essential to hosting that event, was vitally important.
At Stuart’s request, Eddie will now undertake an Audit for Walton Heath every six months to ensure the Club remains up to date and compliant with any regulatory and legislative changes.
